Rie: Study Abroad Choices

October 6, 2008

I want to talk about some choices I have. My first choice is going for semester abroad as part of an OJC program. If I will use the semester abroad, I want to go to Ewha Woman’s University in Korea They have a good education program and there are many foreign students from many countries. I want to have cultural exchange with the students there and be friends. Also, I want to study more English in Korea However, I want to go abroad to study French, too. That is my second choice. I have been taking a French class since I was a second year high school student and I am thinking that I want to speak three or more language. I think French is fun and there are not many people who can speak French in Japan, I guess. I like doing something different from others. Another reason I want to study French is that I think it is not possible to be but I want I will be a staff of United Nation. For being that, it is better to be able to speak French. Thus, my second choice is being absent from school and going abroad to study French. My third choice is going nowhere during the college year and getting a job somewhere for the time being and after I got enough money, I will go to a country where people speak French such as France, Canada or Switzerland. I don’t know which choice I should choose. But what I really want to study is French. So… maybe I should choose my second or third choices. Is anyone thinking about going to study abroad? Please tell me your comment about my choices if you don’t mind.

It’s kinda same problem I have. In my case, I like studying something in English and now, I am particulary interested in Conflict-resolution or transformation and a teacher told me it is better to go to Hong Kong through part of school system in order to study the fields. But I asked my seniors who are now in Hong Kong and Korea about both schools. Unluckily, classes in which they thought to get credits were not adimitted. :( Furthermore, there weren’t so much classes on the field…
So, I am seriously thinking to transfer or being absent for a year to study the field in abroad. In anyways to go abroad, I need money and ability for English. Right now, I’ve searched for schools in abroad little by little.
My comments might not be helpful for you, but hopefully, we can make best decision for our future.

After I read this topic, I thought that you thought of your future enough. I also want to study abroad, but now I have no idea which country I go. So I will consider my choices like you.
Also, I like French, too. I think that studying languages lead us new world. If possible, please learn many languages. That will be fun.

Mine is a little bit different from yours. I cannnot decide to work at an apparel company or to go to graduate school. If I go to graduate school, I will not able to work at the company. Because, my interest is education and this is not related to the fashion. So, I cannnot decide what I do yet.
By the way, I agree to your third plan. If you don’t have enough money, once you work and make money. This plan will take a long time, but it is the best plan to you, I think. Good luck!!

My friends stay Korea for semester abroad now. People in Korea are very eager in their studies, so it is good choice to learn although it is hard. If you are interested in UN, you can ask Ms. Moto about UN because she worked there. I also want to work as a staff at group such as YMCA and JICA so I want to study many languages as you said. However, I think there is a little developing country where speak in French, so I think it is difficult to use French in UN though I don’t know and I took French class in OJC, too. Cheer up!!

I think you have better to choose what you want to most do. I thought, your third choice is one of the good way, especially you make money by yourself. If you do not mind about the expenses, you will able to use the semester abroad and the after you will able to go to somewhere to study French. Whichever you choice, you can open a new world and meet new friends!!

I think it is difficult to choose if you go abroad now or not. I don’t know which better is, you go abroad now or after finishing university. I think it will be really good experience whenever and wherever you choose!! So I think you should go when you want to. I’ll cheer you up!!
